Line 2: Role of Shyness/Boldness
Called Out — The Hermit and the Reluctant Entrance into the Dance
About Line 2 in Relationship
The 2nd line is the Hermit — a profile that naturally withdraws, that needs solitude to function, that carries natural gifts it often doesn't recognize in itself. The 2nd line doesn't seek attention; it often doesn't even see its own brilliance. And yet the 2nd line is perpetually being called out — noticed, drawn in, invited into engagement.
In the mating dance, this creates the tension Ra Uru Hu identified as the Shyness/Boldness dynamic. The 2nd line's shyness is not social anxiety in the conventional sense; it is a mechanical orientation toward the private and inward. The boldness is not a personality choice — it emerges when the 2nd line is called out by something or someone who genuinely captures its awareness, pulling it from the hermit space into the dance.
Sexual attraction for the 2nd line involves this oscillation: withdrawal and self-sufficiency on one side, the sudden call into full engagement on the other. Partners who don't understand this mechanic often interpret the 2nd line's withdrawal as rejection or disinterest. Ra Uru Hu's transmission of the 2nd line's sexual strategy clarifies exactly what is happening — and why the 2nd line itself may not be able to explain it.
What This Program Covers
Based on the known mechanics of the 2nd line in Human Design — as transmitted by Ra Uru Hu — this program examines:
- The 2nd line's hermit orientation — why solitude is mechanical, not psychological
- The "called out" dynamic: how the 2nd line enters the mating dance from a position of withdrawal
- Shyness as design vs. social conditioning — understanding the mechanical source
- Boldness in the 2nd line: what triggers it and how it changes the relational dynamic
- Natural talent and unconscious gifts in the context of sexual attraction
- What the 2nd line actually needs from a partner versus what it appears to want
Who Benefits from This Program
- Anyone with a 2nd line in their Profile (2/4, 2/5 — Hermit/Opportunist or Hermit/Heretic)
- Partners of 2nd line profiles who experience the withdrawal/engagement oscillation
- Human Design students studying the 2nd line's natural talent and "called out" mechanic
- Practitioners exploring how Profile mechanics shape sexual and relational patterns
Ra Uru Hu — Founder, Human Design System
Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower, April 9, 1948 — March 12, 2011) was a Canadian-born author and teacher who founded the Human Design System. In January 1987, while living on the island of Ibiza, Spain, Ra Uru Hu described an eight-day mystical encounter he called "the Voice," during which the foundational framework of Human Design was transmitted to him. He spent the following decades systematizing and teaching this body of knowledge, synthesizing elements of the I Ching, Western astrology, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and quantum physics into a unified framework for understanding the mechanics of human consciousness and design.
Ra Uru Hu founded the International Human Design School (IHDS) in 1992 as the institutional body for maintaining the professional standards and authentic transmission of the system. Over two decades, he recorded thousands of hours of teaching programs covering every dimension of the system — from foundational mechanics to advanced specializations. The relationship and sexuality programs in this series are part of that original recorded body of work.
