The Life Force — Channels
The Architecture of Defined Energy — How Channels Carry Life Force Through the Bodygraph
About The Life Force — Channels
A channel in Human Design is formed when both gates at either end are activated — whether by birth, by the unconscious calculation, or by transit. When a channel is complete, the two centers it connects become defined. And when centers are defined, energy flows reliably and consistently between them. This is the life force in action: Qi moving through the architecture of the Bodygraph.
Channels are the units of definition in Human Design. Not individual gates — channels. A single activated gate contributes to the field of the Bodygraph, but it does not define a center and does not create the consistent, reliable expression that a completed channel does. Understanding this distinction — between hanging gates and complete channels — is foundational to reading any Human Design chart with accuracy.
Ra Uru Hu's program on channels covers the mechanics of how channels operate as carriers of life force: what it means when a channel is defined from birth, how consistent definition affects the aura and the life, and what the different channel types express. This is a foundational program — not a survey of all 36 channels, but a precise teaching on the channel mechanic itself and what it means for how life force moves through a human being.
What This Program Covers
- What a channel is: two gates forming a complete circuit between two centers
- The difference between a hanging gate and a defined channel — and why it matters
- How channels create center definition: the mechanics of consistent energy
- The life force (Qi) and how it flows through completed channels in the Bodygraph
- Channel definition and the aura: how defined channels shape how you interact with the world
- The relationship between channels, circuits, and the larger patterns of the Bodygraph
- What it means to have many defined channels vs. few — different architectures of life force
Who Benefits from This Program
- Beginning and intermediate Human Design students building foundational mechanics knowledge
- Anyone who wants to understand why channels — not individual gates — are the key units of definition
- Students who have their chart but want to understand what their defined channels actually mean
- Practitioners building their foundational analysis vocabulary
- Anyone starting a systematic study of the Bodygraph architecture
Ra Uru Hu — Founder, Human Design System
Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower, April 9, 1948 — March 12, 2011) was a Canadian-born author and teacher who founded the Human Design System. In January 1987, while living on the island of Ibiza, Spain, Ra Uru Hu described an eight-day mystical encounter he called "the Voice," during which the foundational framework of Human Design was transmitted to him. He spent the following decades systematizing and teaching this body of knowledge, synthesizing elements of the I Ching, Western astrology, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and quantum physics into a unified framework for understanding the mechanics of human consciousness and design.
Ra Uru Hu founded the International Human Design School (IHDS) in 1992 as the institutional body for maintaining the professional standards and authentic transmission of the system. Over two decades, he recorded thousands of hours of teaching programs covering every dimension of the system — from foundational mechanics to advanced specializations. The programs in this series are part of that original recorded body of work.
