No Definition
Pure openness — the Reflector's design of total lunar attunement.
No Definition means none of your nine Centers are defined (colored-in). This is the design of the Reflector — the rarest Type in the Human Design system, comprising roughly 1% of the population. Without a fixed definition, the Reflector's chart is entirely open, which means they are uniquely sensitive to and reflective of everyone and everything around them. Their design is governed not by fixed circuitry but by the Moon — the lunar cycle becomes their primary timing mechanism.
In a No Definition design, energy does not flow through fixed channels. Instead, the Reflector samples the energy of every person they encounter through their completely open Centers. They become a living mirror of their environment. This sampling is not permanent — when the person or influence is gone, so is that energy pattern. The only consistent rhythm is the 28-29 day lunar cycle, which activates different gates in sequence, providing the Reflector with a rotating experience of all 64 gates over the course of a month.
Living as a Reflector is unlike any other design. You are extraordinarily changeable — not because you are inconsistent, but because you are genuinely reflecting back whatever field you are in. You may feel extraordinarily different from one day to the next, from one environment to the next, from one social context to the next. This is correct. The question is never "who am I?" (you are always reflecting) — the question is "what am I reflecting, and is this environment correct for me?"
Relationships for Reflectors carry a unique challenge: because they take on and reflect the definition and energy of whoever they are with, they can temporarily feel like different people in different relationships. Partners who understand this experience the Reflector as remarkably adaptable and empathic. Partners who don't may feel confused by the variability. Reflectors need partners and communities whose energy is genuinely health-producing — because they will reflect whatever they consistently absorb.
The Reflector's decision-making authority is uniquely lunar. Rather than a single inner authority (sacral, emotional wave, splenic, etc.), the Reflector is designed to wait the full 28-29 day lunar cycle before making major decisions. This gives the Moon time to move through all 64 gates, activating each area of the chart in sequence. By the end of the cycle, the Reflector has had the full range of energetic perspective needed to make a genuinely clear decision. Rushing this process produces significant misalignment.

The two foundational strategies for Reflectors are deceptively simple and profoundly difficult to maintain in a world that values rapid decisions and consistent identity. **First**: Protect the environment fiercely. Because you reflect what you are consistently around, the quality of your environment is not a preference — it is a health requirement. A Reflector in a toxic environment becomes a reflection of that toxicity. A Reflector in a healthy, flourishing community reflects that flourishing. Choosing your environment is choosing who you become. **Second**: Honor the lunar cycle as sacred. In a culture that celebrates instant decisions and rapid pivots, the 28-29 day wait is countercultural to the extreme. But the Reflectors who honor it consistently make fewer catastrophic decisions than any other design type. The lunar wait is not procrastination; it is the correct use of the Reflector's unique authority. A practical lunar tracking practice: when a major decision arises, note the Moon's position in the Human Design wheel (the gate it is activating). Over the next 28-29 days, track how your felt sense of the decision shifts as the Moon moves through each gate. By the time the Moon returns to the original position, your clarity will be maximized.
The most damaging conditioning for Reflectors comes in two forms: **Speed pressure**: Societys demand for instant decisions is directly contrary to the Reflector's correct timing. Reflectors who are conditioned to decide quickly make decisions from whoever's field they were absorbing at the moment — and experience far higher rates of regret than any other design type. **Identity pressure**: The demand to have a consistent, fixed identity is impossible for Reflectors to meet without pretending. Reflectors who are conditioned to perform consistency deny their reflective gift and often develop significant psychological strain trying to maintain a fixed persona that doesn't match their experience. The healing path is recognizing that consistency, in the Reflector's case, lives at the level of correct environment selection and lunar timing — not at the level of fixed behavioral identity.
Reflectors thrive in communities where their reflective gift is recognized and valued rather than pathologized as inconsistency. **Ideal partnership qualities**: A partner who has done significant self-awareness work (so that what the Reflector reflects is genuinely healthy); who respects and supports the lunar decision-making cycle (never pressuring for faster answers on important matters); and who maintains their own consistent definition rather than being energetically chaotic or depleted. **Environments to prioritize**: Small, high-quality communities over large, energetically dense crowds. Nature-based settings (which have no human definition to reflect) for regular restorative periods. Homes and workspaces with careful energetic curation. **The community role**: When correctly placed, Reflectors serve as the community's health barometers. If a Reflector in a group begins to feel unwell, disturbed, or exhausted — and it's not attributable to their own life circumstances — this is often a signal that something in the community's collective energy has become unhealthy. Reflectors who understand this role often become invaluable to the organizations and communities they belong to.
No Definition means none of your nine Energy Centers are permanently defined (colored-in). This is the Reflector design — the rarest in the system. Without fixed circuitry, you are completely open to the energies around you, reflecting back the health or distress of your environment. Your consistent rhythm is the 28-29 day lunar cycle, not any fixed internal definition.
Because the Moon activates all 64 gates in sequence over 28-29 days, the Reflector's chart experiences every possible energetic configuration during a full lunar month. By waiting, the Reflector gains perspective from all possible positions — including positions that may only appear once a month. This full-cycle view produces decisions of extraordinary quality that shorter timelines cannot replicate.
Reflectors who do not know their design often experience significant disorientation — taking on others' energies and thinking they are their own, feeling fundamentally inconsistent, struggling to locate a stable sense of self. Reflectors who understand their design often describe their openness as a gift: they are the community's mirror, the environment reader, the rare being who can sample the full range of human experience and reflect it back with extraordinary clarity.
