The Story Lines
The Narrative Structure of Your Life — Written in the Lines of Your Profile
About The Story Lines
In Human Design, the six lines are not just profile components. They are story lines — each carrying a distinct narrative arc, a set of life themes, a quality of experience and learning that runs through everything: relationships, work, creativity, purpose, and the encounter with other people. Ra Uru Hu identified these narratives with precision: the Line 1's need for foundational knowledge before security is possible; the Line 2's oscillation between the hermit space and the call into engagement; the Line 3's laboratory of trial and error; the Line 4's reliance on the trusted network; the Line 5's projection field and the heretic's practical dharma; the Line 6's three-phase arc toward the role model.
The Story Lines program examines these six narratives as Ra Uru Hu transmitted them — not as personality categories but as structural features of how a human life unfolds. Your profile is made up of two lines (your conscious sun line and your unconscious sun line), and their combination creates the specific flavor of your life story. Understanding both your profile and the mechanics of the individual lines is one of the richest areas of Human Design study.
This program provides Ra Uru Hu's own transmission of the six line stories — their qualities, their challenges, their gifts, and the way they interact in the two-line profiles that most humans carry. It is both an introduction to Profile mechanics for newer students and a depth source for those who want to understand the line narratives from the founder's original perspective.
What This Program Covers
- The six lines as story lines: how each line carries a distinct narrative arc and life theme
- Line 1 (Investigator): the story of foundation-building, security through knowledge, and the need to research before proceeding
- Line 2 (Hermit): the story of natural talent, solitude, and the tension between withdrawal and being called out
- Line 3 (Martyr): the story of trial and error, bonds made and broken, and adaptive wisdom through lived experience
- Line 4 (Opportunist): the story of the fixed sphere, trusted network, and relational foundation as the vehicle for life
- Line 5 (Heretic): the story of the projection field, the practical universal, and the heretic's dharma to deliver what others need
- Line 6 (Role Model): the three-phase story — from trial through observation to the embodied wisdom of the Role Model
- Profile as two-line combination: how the conscious and unconscious line stories interact

Ra Uru Hu — Founder, Human Design System
Ra Uru Hu (born Alan Robert Krakower, April 9, 1948 — March 12, 2011) was a Canadian-born author and teacher who founded the Human Design System. In January 1987, while living on the island of Ibiza, Spain, Ra Uru Hu described an eight-day mystical encounter he called "the Voice," during which the foundational framework of Human Design was transmitted to him. He spent the following decades systematizing and teaching this body of knowledge, synthesizing elements of the I Ching, Western astrology, the Kabbalistic Tree of Life, the Hindu-Brahmin chakra system, and quantum physics into a unified framework for understanding the mechanics of human consciousness and design.
Ra Uru Hu founded the International Human Design School (IHDS) in 1992 as the institutional body for maintaining the professional standards and authentic transmission of the system. Over two decades, he recorded thousands of hours of teaching programs covering every dimension of the system — from foundational mechanics to advanced specializations. The programs in this series are part of that original recorded body of work.
