Core Concept

Neo-Cortex

The most recently evolved brain region — in Human Design, associated with the Personality/passenger consciousness and outer authority.

In Human Design, the Neo-Cortex refers to the most recently evolved region of the human brain — the outer cerebral cortex responsible for higher cognitive functions, language, abstract reasoning, and the sense of conscious selfhood. Ra Uru Hu associated the Neo-Cortex with the Personality/passenger consciousness in Human Design — the awareness layer that rides the vehicle and observes experience. The Neo-Cortex is, in Human Design terms, an "outer authority" — a remarkable tool for communication, analysis, and sharing perspectives with others, but NOT a reliable inner authority for making correct decisions about one's own life. Ra consistently taught that the Neo-Cortex was designed for interacting with the world and other people, not for determining what is correct for the vehicle. Correct decisions always come from the body's Inner Authority, not from the mental processes of the Neo-Cortex.
