The Lower Trigram is the bottom half of a hexagram in Human Design — specifically lines 1, 2, and 3. The Lower Trigram is associated with personal, inward-focused themes: Line 1 (building a foundation through investigation and knowledge), Line 2 (the natural, hermit-like genius that has not yet been fully externalized), and Line 3 (adaptive learning through trial, error, and direct experience). The Lower Trigram is considered the "personal" half of the hexagram — these lines are oriented toward the self and the development of the individual. In Profile terms, individuals with lower trigram lines (1, 2, or 3 in their profile) have a personal, inward orientation to their life theme, in contrast to those with upper trigram lines (4, 5, or 6), who have a more transpersonal, outward orientation. The Lower Trigram also forms the base of the hexagram upon which the Upper Trigram rests.
