The Harmonic Gate is the complementary Gate that pairs with any activated Gate to form a complete Channel. In Human Design, every Gate is one half of a Channel — and its Harmonic Gate is the other half, located in the adjacent Center at the Channel's other end.

When a Gate is activated (by any planet in either the Personality or Design calculation), its Harmonic Gate is the gate that, if also activated, would complete the Channel and create a defined energy bridge between the two Centers.

The concept of Harmonic Gates is foundational to understanding:<br>- Hanging gates (also called "open gates" or "incomplete channels"): a Gate that is activated without its Harmonic Gate being activated. The Gate's energy is present but the Channel is incomplete — the energy "hangs," seeking its complement<br>- Electromagnetic attraction: when one person's hanging gate is the Harmonic Gate of another person's hanging gate, a powerful electromagnetic (EM) connection is created — the Channel completes in the Composite, generating strong chemistry<br>- Transit activation: when a transiting planet activates a Harmonic Gate, it temporarily completes the Channel and "turns on" that Circuit's energy for the duration of the transit

In Human Design Analysis, identifying Harmonic Gates in a design reveals where the individual is electromagnetically "open" — where the right person or transit can complete their circuitry, and where this potential for completion can be both a gift and a source of conditioning.
