Core Mechanics

Detriment is one of the two polarities used to describe the spectrum of expression within each Line of the 64 hexagrams in the Rave I'Ching. It is the shadow or challenging pole — the expression that represents the line's energy operating in its less harmonious, more difficult, or obstructed form.

Each Line of each hexagram has two poles:
- Exalted — the elevated, harmonious, most favorable expression of the line's theme
- Detriment — the shadow, obstructed, or challenging expression of the line's theme

These polarities do not represent "good" and "bad" in a moralistic sense — they are simply the two ends of the spectrum of how any given line's energy can manifest. Both poles exist within every activation; the actual expression depends on the specific Color, Tone, and Base sub-frequencies, the individual's overall design, and how they are living their Strategy and Authority.

In readings and analysis, understanding Detriment helps explain why a particular activation might express with difficulty, resistance, or shadow qualities — and contextualizes why the same Gate can manifest so differently in different individuals.
