Design (also referred to as the unconscious or red stream) is one of the two calculation streams that make up the complete Human Design BodyGraph — the other being the Personality (black, conscious stream).

The Design calculation is made from the planetary positions at approximately 88 degrees of the Sun before the moment of birth — roughly 88 days prior for most people. Ra Uru Hu identified this as the moment of "crystallization" — when the Design Crystal imprints the physical vehicle with its genetic programming.

The Design activations are shown in red on the BodyGraph. They represent:<br>- The genetic, biological, and unconscious aspects of the individual's nature<br>- What operates through the body automatically, without conscious awareness or identification<br>- The vehicle's drives, instincts, and physical intelligence — not accessible to the mind directly<br>- The aspects of self that others often see more clearly than the individual themselves

Because the Design is unconscious, it does not speak in words or concepts — it communicates through the body's responses: the sacral sound, the spleen's instinct, the emotional wave. Learning to trust the Design is the core of living one's Human Design correctly.
