Channel
A defined energy pathway formed when both gates at opposite ends of a circuit connection are activated — connecting two Centers.
A Channel forms when both Gates at the two ends of a defined circuit pathway are activated — either by Personality, Design, or a combination of both streams. When a Channel is defined, it creates a consistent, reliable energy bridge between the two Centers it connects.
There are 36 Channels in the Human Design BodyGraph, each connecting a specific pair of Centers. Every Channel has:
- Two Gates — one at each Center end
- A Circuit — Individual, Collective, Tribal, or Integration
- A Sub-circuit (for Individual and Collective channels) — Knowing, Abstract/Sensing, Logic/Understanding, Centering, Ego, or Defense
- A Theme — the core quality or energy the channel expresses
- A Frequency — Pulse (Individual and Integration), Cyclical (Collective Abstract), Pattern (Collective Logic), or Timeless (Tribal)
A Channel is defined when both gates are activated. If only one gate is activated, it is called a "hanging gate" — the energy seeks but does not complete the circuit independently.
The defined channels in a BodyGraph create the individual's consistent traits, gifts, and energetic nature. Understanding which channels are defined reveals the fixed, reliable aspects of the individual. Understanding the hanging gates reveals where they are open to be completed — and potentially conditioned — by others.
