Aura

The electromagnetic field surrounding and penetrating the body — each Type has a distinct aura mechanic that determines how it interacts with others.

The Aura is the electromagnetic field that surrounds and penetrates every human body, extending approximately two body-lengths in all directions. In Human Design, the Aura is the primary mechanism by which Types interact with each other and with the world.

Each of the four Types has a distinct aura mechanic:

Generator (including Manifesting Generator): Open and enveloping aura. The Generator aura draws life toward it — it is magnetic and receptive, designed to attract the right work, relationships, and opportunities. The Generator waits to respond because the correct things come to them.

Projector: Focused and absorbing aura. The Projector aura penetrates and reads the aura of others — it is designed to see deeply into systems and people. This is why Projectors are natural guides. They must be recognized and invited to use this penetrating quality correctly.

Manifestor: Closed and repelling aura. The Manifestor aura initiates impact — it pushes outward and creates resistance in others. This is why Manifestors must inform before acting: their closed aura creates unconscious resistance and anger in those around them unless they communicate their intentions.

Reflector: Resistant and sampling aura. The Reflector aura is resistant — it samples rather than absorbs. Reflectors reflect the health and conditioning of their community. They are the only Type whose aura does not fully merge with or define against other auras.
