What happens when your birth time reliability score is LOW?
Just 3 minutes flips Steve Jobs’ entire chart!
We’re applying Human Design for greater mental, physical, and emotional well-being, and today we take our FINAL deep dive into Steve Jobs with a shocking surprise.
We compare the two possible designs side-by-side (Moon stays the same, but personality Sun/Earth + bases shift dramatically):
- ✅ Rectified time chart = Defined Heart Center + Right Angle Cross of Planning (1/3 profile)
- ❌ Recorded time chart (what most people use) = Completely Open Heart + Left Angle Cross of Spirit (6/3 profile)
In this eye-opening analysis, we uncover:
- How Steve’s adoption trauma at age 6 created massive self-worth wounds (and how an open Heart Center amplifies it — but a defined Heart isn’t immune)
- Gate 40 + Channel of Community: the tyrant boss, workaholic, narcissistic reputation explained through Human Design mechanics
- First-line bullying vs. sixth-line (50-year cycle) big-picture maturity
- Motivation & Transference: Innocence vs. blind Desire/Fear vs. Blind Need — which one actually drove his “insanely great” products and control-freak tendencies?
- Real quotes from Steve, his ex-girlfriend, New York Times, and more — all mapped to his gates, centers, and streams of sensitivity & need
- The deep inner drive to prove “I was worthy of being kept” — linking undefined G + Heart to his legendary perfectionism and binary judgments
This isn’t just another Steve Jobs biography. It’s a masterclass in how tiny birth-time details can rewrite your entire Human Design story and life themes.
The Birth Time Reliability Problem: Why 3 Minutes Matter
If you’ve ever pulled a Human Design chart and noticed a low birth-time reliability score (especially with older births where times were often estimated), head over to MaiaMechanics.com. Scroll to the Birth Data section and you’ll see the warning.
In Steve’s case, the recorded time puts him right on the border between two completely different designs. Flip the clock forward just 3 minutes and everything shifts — most importantly the Sun/Earth and bases.
The Moon doesn’t change, but the Incarnation Cross, profile, and key centers do.
Here they are side-by-side (I’ve zoomed in so you can see the difference clearly):
- Recorded chart (most common): Left Angle Cross of Spirit, 6/3 profile
- Rectified chart (3 minutes later): Right Angle Cross of Planning, 1/3 profile
One has a defined Heart Center. The other? Totally open.
That single difference creates an enormous vulnerability — especially when combined with Steve’s adoption story.
Steve’s Adoption Trauma & the Heart Center Wound
At age 6, a neighborhood girl asked Steve: “Does that mean your real parents didn’t want you?” He ran home in tears.
His adoptive parents reassured him: “We chose you specifically.”
But Human Design shows us how deeply that contradiction landed:
- Open Heart (recorded chart): Constant questioning of self-worth and what is “worthy.” Gate 40 (Denial) sits in the stream of need. Even the strongest defined Heart can feel rejected — but an open one amplifies every slight.
- Defined Heart (rectified chart): Consistent willpower, yet still carries the Channel of Community (part seeking whole).
Either way, the childhood wound of “chosen yet rejected” created two contradictory truths that Steve carried his entire life.
Gate 40 + Channel of Community: The Tyrant Boss Explained
Steve had a reputation as a workaholic and tyrant. A longtime girlfriend read the DSM entry on narcissistic personality disorder and said, “It fits so well… expecting him to be nicer was like expecting a blind man to see.”
New York Times (1987): “By the early 80s Mr. Jobs was widely hated at Apple. Senior management endured his temper tantrums… reducing employees to tears. Mr. Jobs himself would frequently cry after fights.”
Human Design mechanics behind the behavior:
- Gate 40 (first line in rectified chart) = authoritative, “do as I say,” bossy, bully energy when not-self.
- Channel of Community (40-37) = tribal need to feed and lead the “work family.” Approval/disapproval flows through Gate 16.
- Stream of Sensitivity + emotional authority = regret, sensitivity, and emotional outbursts.
First lines can be domineering. Sixth lines take 50 years to mature into big-picture wisdom. Steve’s tantrums, credit-hogging, seduction-then-abandonment, and “hours-long dictator-like speeches” all map directly here.
Motivation & Transference: Which Cross Was Steve Really Living?
This is where the 3-minute difference becomes life-changing.
Recorded chart (6/3 Cross of Spirit)
- Motivation: Innocence (motiveless)
- Transference: Blind Desire
- Ra Uru Hu calls the 6/3 on this cross “potentially promiscuous” because of the 59-6. Steve denied paternity of his daughter Lisa initially (94.4% DNA match) before later reconciling.
Rectified chart (1/3 Cross of Planning)
- Motivation: Fear (resolving the unknown → security)
- Transference: Blind Need
- Investigator energy. First-line color + tone = deepest investigative intelligence on the planet.
Steve said: “It’s not the consumer’s job to know what they want.” “I’m always keeping my eyes open for the next big opportunity.” “Following your heart… there’s no reason not to follow your heart.”
He also described himself as someone who could “convince himself of things that weren’t necessarily true” to get impossible things done through sheer will.
These statements map far more cleanly to the 1/3 Cross of Planning — the strategic, communalist, investigator who sniffs out what doesn’t work to build security for the tribe.
Katya (who created the slides for this series) and I both lean toward the rectified 1/3 chart. The obsessive control of food (not only his own, but even the cafeteria food! Gate 40 is the stomach), binary “insanely great or dookie” judgments, micromanaging cafeteria food, and closed ecosystem all scream “desire to control” coming from a deep need to prove worthiness after abandonment.
The Deep Drive to Prove “I Was Worthy of Being Kept”
A close friend said: “Steve’s drive came from a deep inner desire… to prove that his parents were wrong to give him up.”
Undefined G Center + open/defined Heart + childhood rejection = a man building a perfect world he could control because he couldn’t control his own origins.
Every A-player hired, every “insanely great” product, every person who stayed while others were cast out became evidence submitted to an absent jury: “See? I am worthy. You should not have let me go.”
Later in life, after his cancer diagnosis, Steve wrote a profound confession: “I grow little of the food I eat. I do not make any of my own clothing… I am totally dependent on [my species] for my life and well-being.”
For a man whose identity was built on self-sufficiency and control, that admission was monumental — a shift from isolation to recognizing the very Channel of Community he carried all along.
Which Chart Is Actually Steve Jobs?
I don’t have mental certainty (I’m not a defined Ajna certainty type). But the evidence points strongly to the 1/3 Right Angle Cross of Planning with defined Heart and the obsessive control of food with willpower.
